DENOMINATION |
 |
Stoneware floor tile is
the most widespread term for dust-pressed, glazed
ceramic tiles with low or medium-low water absorption,
usually manufactured by single firing. This type of
product is also known as vitrified floor tile, glazed
ceramic floor tile, or simply ceramic flooring. |
 |
APPEARANCE |
|
Body: A vitreous (low water absorption) or semi-vitreous
(medium-low water absorption) body or substrate is
involved, with a white or light colour, or a colour
going from buff to a dark brownish grey. Body colour
does not affect other product characteristics. The
texture is fine and homogeneous with heterogeneous
elements hardly being visible to the naked eye. Surfaces
and edges are regular with a good finish.
Fair face: The matt to high-gloss, fair face glaze may
be white, plain, marble, mottled, granulated or
decorated with different patterns or designs.
Shapes and sizes: Square shapes prevail and sizes range
from 10 cm x 10 cm to 60 cm x 60 cm. Some models have
one or more chamfered corners, and rectangular products
are also marketed. The most common fittings and trims
are insets and listels, along with skirtings, steps, and
cheeks.

|
USE |
|
These materials are
suitable for internal flooring in residential or
commercial building domains. Stoneware floor tile
possessing the appropriate characteristics can also be
used for cladding facades (frost resistance) and
external flooring (frost resistance and high abrasion
resistance). |

PRODUCTION IN SPAIN |

Stoneware floor tile and
wall tile make up most of Spanish tile production. A
wide range of highly varied products is available. |

included in ISO and EN-UNE standard Groups BIb, GL (dust-pressed

glazed tiles) and BII, GL (dust-pressed ceramic tiles
with medium-low water absorption 3 % £ E < 6%,
glazed tiles). |
