DENOMINATION |
 |
It is the general denomination
of very low water absorption ceramic tiles that are dry
pressed, unglazed and therefore undergo a single firing.
|
 |
APPEARANCE |
|
The body of the tile is the colour of its mass of colouring,
with uniform or granular distribution. It has a fine
and homogeneous grain and the non-homogeneous elements
(grains, inclusions, and pores) cannot be distinguished
by the naked eye. The face of the tile, which is made
of the same material as the body, may be brazen, mottled,
marble-like or decorated.
The surfaces and arrises are regular and well-finished.
The currently predominant shape is the square, with
smaller proportions that the rectangle. Special more
commonly used tiles are steps and footrails.

|
USE |
|
Porcelain stoneware tiles
may be used as they are after firing, or their face may
be polished to make it shine and look smooth. The face
may have reliefs for decoration (similar to natural stone)
or be non-slipping (diamond tips, strias, angles,...) |
| |
PRODUCTION IN SPAIN |
| |
Porcelain stoneware is
the most recent product on the market. Spanish production,
initiated in 1988, has a complete variety that is increasing
in accordance with the demand. |
| |
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS |
| |
Porcelain stoneware is
included in the BIa group (Dry pressed ceramic tiles with
E < 0.5% water absorption) of standards ISO 13006 and
UNE EN 14411. |
