DENOMINATION AND USE |
 |
It is the traditional name
for high porosity ceramic tiles that are dry pressed,
glazed, with the application of double or single firing.
Their characteristics make them apt mainly for use as
interior wall-coverings in buildings, houses or shops. |
 |
PRODUCTION IN SPAIN |
|
The tiles, together with stoneware paving, make up
the greater part of Spanish ceramic tile productions.
A wide and varied offer is available.
|
|
THE BATT |
|
The batt or bisque is made
of majolica (fine earthenware) coloured white or clear
(slightly grey, cream or ivory) or ochre to buff or dark
red, without the colour affecting the characteristics
of the product. The grain is fine and homogeneous and
the non-homogeneous elements cannot be perceived by the
naked eye (grain, inclusions, and pores). |
| |
THE GLAZE |
| |
The glaze that covers the
face of the tile may be white, single-coloured, marbled,
mottled, and multi-coloured and may be decorated with
different motifs. The surfaces and arrises of the tiles
are regular and well-finished. The predominant shapes
are squares and rectangles. Standard complementary tiles
are listels, mouldings and friezes. |
| |
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS |
| |
Tiles are included in the
BIII group of the ISTO 13006 and UNE EN 14411 standards
(Dry pressed ceramic tiles with E > 10% water absorption). |
